Honed Granite Balls Take Centre Stage
300kg Granite Spheres Add Monumental Beauty to Landscapes
Move over, birdbaths and stepping stones – there's a new heavyweight contender in the world of landscape design; the honed granite sphere. These impressive man-made creations, each weighing a hefty 300kg (about the same as a grand piano!), are becoming a sought-after addition to gardens and public spaces.
A Touch of Modern Elegance that Shines
Honed granite offers a unique aesthetic. Unlike polished granite, which has a high shine, honed granite has a smooth, matte finish that exudes a sense of modern elegance. This finish allows the natural beauty of the stone's color and flecks to come through. When wet, however, the honed surface transforms. The water acts like a natural polish, bringing out the stone's inherent shine and depth of color. Imagine a perfectly round, honed granite sphere glistening after a summer rain, its natural hues accentuated – a truly captivating addition to any landscape.
Focal Point or Conversation Starter
The sheer size and weight of these spheres make them a guaranteed conversation starter. They can be used as a central focal point in a garden, drawing the eye and anchoring the space. Imagine a perfectly round, honed granite sphere nestled amongst vibrant flowerbeds, or positioned dramatically on a bed of gravel. The possibilities are endless!
Granite Balls Can Be Functional Too
While their size is impressive, these spheres can offer functionality as well. They can be used as:
- Seating: A strategically placed sphere can create a unique and stylish seating option in a garden.
- Water Feature: By adding a water feature to the top of the sphere, you can create a calming and visually stunning water cascade. The cascading water will naturally keep the sphere wet, enhancing its beauty.
- Sculpture: The simple yet monumental form of the sphere makes it a beautiful sculptural element in itself.
When Considering Granite Spheres
Before incorporating a 300kg sphere into your landscape design, there are some important factors to consider:
- Foundation: The ground needs to be properly prepared to support the weight of the sphere. A strong foundation is crucial to ensure its stability and prevent any damage to the surrounding area.
- Placement: Think carefully about the placement of the sphere. Its size will naturally draw the eye, so consider how it will interact with other elements in the landscape.
- Delivery and Installation: Due to their weight, specialized equipment is needed to move and install these spheres. Factor in the cost of professional delivery and installation when planning your project.
